Instead of trying to load individual instruments via double-clicking each one-which apparently is not working in Windows for NOTION 4/5 when SampleTank 3 is running as a VSTi virtual instrument-use a custom user-defined Multi, which is a different way. Whether this will solve the problem is another matter, but it will provide a bit of additional information, since it does the double-click in a way that might not dependent upon using the mouse driver. You might try MouseKeys and use the "+" key method of doing an emulated double-click.

There is a utility program in Windows called MouseKeys, which is part of the Accessibility features, and it makes it possible to use keyboard keys to do certain mouse actions, including a double-click. īased on this information, one possibility is that in Windows 7/8 the double-click is being blocked or otherwise not recognized when done with a mouse.

I did a few experiments on the Mac, and it appears that the only way to load a SampleTank 3 FREE instrument is to double-click it. By the way I have notion 4 as well and same thing.

This is a big let down especially since the latest patch didn't fix it. They are in the list but double clicking has no effect. I changed to the sampletank 3 folder instead of instruments and it worked on the standalone but as a plugin in notion 5 using the same path still no instruments loading. I have tried all folder combinations without success.

In SampleTank 3, this is done by clicking on the "sprocket", as shown in the screen capture ( see above).

In this respect, one of the common problems that people have with SampleTank 2+ is not knowing how to set preferences correctly, and this nearly always maps to not being able to find the various instruments and sample sound libraries but it is remedied easily by pointing people to the tiny "PREFS" button, which among other things launches a dialog box where the path to the instruments and sounds is specified via the "Browse" button and then navigating to the correct folder. įrom my perspective, reading "it doesn't work" when there is little additional information can just as easily be read as "it works, but I don't know how to do it". On the other hand, directory paths and functions to work with directory paths are different in the Windows universe, so this might be of no help, but part of the behavior on the Mac was similar until I discovered the correct folder (a.k.a., "directory" in Window terminology) to use. Once the correct path is specified on the Mac, everything is there when you load SampleTank 3 FREE as a VSTi virtual instrument in NOTION 4, which is the expected behavior. The "intuitive" mistake I made was to presume that the correct path would be to a subfolder named "Instruments", since this is the way it was done in SampleTank 2+ and all the other "legacy" virtual instruments from IK Multimedia.

Whether this is related to the problem with the full version of SampleTank 3 on Windows machines is another matter, but it is in some respects similar and if I had stopped at the first attempt, I could write that "the instruments are not loading", but I know that stuff works on the Mac, so when stuff does not appear to be working, I try to do it a different way and continue trying this until I find the correct way. Next, I tried a different subfolder, and this time it worked. I started SampleTank 3 FREE in standalone mode browsed the shared IK Multimedia folder and selected what appeared to be the most logical choice for a path, which did nothing, so I tried a different subfolder, and it caused a list of subfolders to appear in the SampleTank 3 FREE browser (left side of the graphic user interface ), but all the subfolders were empty, and there were no instruments. I did a bit of checking and discovered that on the Mac the instruments are located in the shared user folder, which also is where Kontakt 5 libraries are stored, but in a different subfolder, of course.

This is what I did, but after starting SampleTank 3 FREE in standalone, the original Grand Piano instrument was gone, and there were no other instruments.

The FREE instrument update is available in the IK Multimedia User Area, and after downloading it and unzipping the file, there is an installer program which installs everything, with separate installers for Mac and Windows, respectively. With the caveats (a) that I am using NOTION 4 and (b) that I am using SampleTank 3 FREE, I encountered a similar problem yesterday (Tuesday September 9, 2014) after downloading and installing the latest set of instruments for SampleTank 3 FREE.
